Berry was so beautiful and everything was so perfect...............until it was our turn in the financial aid office. There is a deficit of $10,000 of which we will have to pay for per year times 4 years. When Jacob got his schlorship letter, to us it looked like he was getting $18,000 per year, well he is but the school is almost 29,000 per year. I am devastated because we can't qualify for more than $6700 in loans, so I've been in such a state of despair. I feel liked I've failed and let my son down. Where is the college fairy when you need her? Berry is a private school so of course it costs more.
I'm not giving up yet, but I know I don't want to put us in such a tight space that we could lose if work falls thru. John was laid off for 6 months last year, plus knowing that he needs shoulder surgery for a torn rotator cuff I just feel helpless.
I'm hoping that we will be able to find a state school that will squeeze him in for fall. He's smart, Honor graduate and made 1940 something on his SAT, but I fear it's too late to get him in somewhere for fall. I know Berry had already given him his fall schedule. If he can get in a state school then money won't be an issue, Hope program will pay for tuition. Please pray for us that we can get Jacob enrolled somewhere. I'm know my son is shutting down all his feelings right now, I know that I've cried enough for both of us. Sigh..................I promised him I wouldn't cry anymore but I can't seem to stop my tears.
I don't mean to depress everyone, but being able to talk it out does help. Smile :)
No stitching yet, hoping to some tomorrow!

Sorry to hear this! Does Berry offer grants or a work-study program that would close the gap on the loan/scholarship? Depending on what type of loan it is, you wouldn't have to start paying on that until he graduates from school or drops out, whichever comes first.
I managed to get myself through a private school with student loans, grants and the occasional yearly scholarship while also working part-time to cover what the rest couldn't.
Good luck!
Is there a community college that he could go to? He could get his general education credits there and then transfer them to a 4-year college. It's not the same as going off to college, but it's a lot cheaper.
Good luck...it's such a shame that a college education is getting so pricy! I'm still paying on my first one...and I graduated 10 years ago. *sigh*
I will send up extra prayers for you guys.
I have a son who is going to college this fall. One of the places that should be able to help you is the financial aid office at the college. They know of all kinds of ways to find money for school. Be honest and tell them what is going on.....and see what possible solutions they might offer. Also the site Fastweb lists all kinds of scholarships...you never know you might just find one that works. Good Luck!

Oh no!! Hopefully something will work out... keeping my fingers crossed :)
It's tough. Son #2 starts Vet School at UGA in the fall. Yep, he went to a state school and kept the HOPE, but it wasn't cheap. I was a college professor for 20 years until dear old Sonny laid about 30% of us. I managed to get three degrees from three different institutions, took out loans, got work study, worked multiple jobs, got scholarships, grants, and did everything short of breaking the law to get an education. My parents never gave me one red cent. It's doable. Son 1 is in the Army--they paid for his education and are paying for grad school as they did for my husband. Son 2 got out of the undergrad program debt free and into Vet School knowing that now is the time for loans. That's why doctors make the big bucks. Gotta pay off those loans.Nonetheless, he's worked every minute he could and saved every penny he could against the day he started Vet School. Your son needs to seek out the financial aid officers at Berry. Make them his friends. Never give up and never surrender. My undergraduate degree came from a very expensive private school. Most privates have major endowments. The money's there. Find it. You've started late, but don't give up. Bottom line, however, it's his education.
Edit here--I was typing fast and not editing as I went--while the typo is almost Freudian in its slip--it should read "Sonny laid about 30% of us OFF...." Insert your own off-color, political comment here.
Back to Daisy-Girl's college tuition situation, I didn't mean to sound harsh, but reality is sometimes, well, harsh. Sometimes our boys have to man up and help out.
Yeah Ralee, Jacob thought about military, but doesn't want to take the chance, we already have 3 family members over there now, Berry has already offered all they can, Jacob has looked into state schools, the people at GA Southern still are taking applications and so is GSW, so I'm still hopeful!
